HERE IS MY COLUMN FOR THE NEXT ISSUE:

NOVEMBER - DECEMBER PALM SPRINGS

Enough heat, it's time for "High Season" and that means business picks up with lots of tourists, returning Snow Birds, and the people who only come to their desert home on weekends during season. And they are all looking for live entertainment at the local theaters and venues, including ones that were closed for the summer. So far it looks like it is going to be one of our biggest yet. For me that means another season at Arthur Newman Theater for Cabaret On Sundays Series and it's 12th season from November through April 2020. It begins with a fan favorite who always puts on a super show, Loretta Siani kicking it off on 11/3, followed by another one who always packs them in, Marcia Harp on 11/10, then one of the performers who closed out the Summer Season with a full house, Leslie Tinnaro on 11/17, and Chris Hassett on 11/24. December's spectacular line up includes Rosanne Hopkins on 12/1, then Leanna Rodgers on 12/8, Melba Miller on 12/15, and Doug MacDonald with a big band style holiday show on 12/22, the show for 12/29 is still to be filled. Something new I've started is Cabaret Dinner Show Tuesdays at AJ's On The Green with a prefix 3-course dinner and show for $39.95. It all started as a four-week trial to see if there was enough interest with shows from Doug Graham, David Bader, Roberta Linn, and Iris Williams. They were received so well we are returning in November with a benefit on 11/5 to raise funds for a very well deserved star on the Palm Canyon Avenue Walk Of Fame for Keisha D, with more to be announced. Saturday nights at AJ's is Cabaret On The Green Open Mic with Joel Baker on piano and me as the MC. One of the hottest spots in Palm Springs and the West Coast is Michael Holmes Purple Room that draws some heavy-hitter entertainers for its Friday and Saturday nights. Coming up are Faith Prince in Have A Little Faith on 11/1, Scot Bruce in Elvis: The Early Years on 11/2, Lee Squared: The Peggy Lee & Liberace Comeback Tour on 11/15, my good friend Todd Murrary with his show Croon is 11/16, Branden & James in All You Need is Love is 11/22 and 11/23, Marilyn Maye makes her I lost count appearance there in Marvelous Marilyn Maye 11/29 and 11/30, Levi Kreis in 5TH Annual Home For The Holiday on 12/6, The Skivvies in I Touch My Elf is 12/13 and 12/14, local resident Diane Schuur in Fresh Takes on 12/20 and 12/21, then Scot Bruce returns again on 12/28 for Elvis: Blue Suede Christmas. And Michael Holmes returns with his popular Judy's Old Fashioned Christmas every Sunday in December with Joel Baker on piano, plus the weekly entertainment by Rose Mallett - Tuesdays, Michael Homes & Keisha D - Wednesdays, and Sharon Sill - Thursdays. Oscar's has big names lined up for their new monthly speakers series featuring An Intimate Evening With:  Michele Lee, Joan Van Ark, and Donna Mills - 11/12, and Everyone's Favorite Genie: Barbara Eden on 12/3. Also at Oscar's you can catch The Sensational Jewels on the last Wednesdays starring Kristi King, Kitty Murray, and Wendy Douglas and usually a special guest. And the new Indigo Room at Pete's Hideaway has new musical reviews to be announced from Charles Herrera, Bonnie Gilgallon, and Darcy Daniels, and the same goes for PS Underground at their new supper club theater space, so check out their shows on line. Bette King Productions will present a host of staged shows she has booked into Mary Pickford Theaters in Cathedral City. The series starts with the above mentioned The Sensational Jewels with The Holiday X-mas Show featuring their guests: Marcia Harp, Jessica Taylor, Bonnie Gilgallon, Deborah Herberg, Terry Lawrence, and Les Michaels. All totaled there will be 11 shows and ending in May of 2020.

For the on-going cabaret lounge entertainment there isn't much change because why fix it if it isn't broken, right? Vicky's Of Sante Fe reopens with nightly entertainment from jazz bands to dance music - check their web site for line up. Derrik Lewis and his trio entertain Tuesdays and Thursdays in The Coral Lounge at Tropicale with Jeff Stover on bass and featured guest musicians. The big hit, The Mod Squad Variety Show is next door at Copa every Thursday with Francesca Amari, Jeff Stewart, and Wayne Abravanel, followed by Bella Da Ball and Lipstick Cabaret Review. Stacy's Piano Bar has entertainment nightly and also some weekend afternoons, which seems to change almost weekly. Ron Pass is Tuesday - Saturday nights at Morgan's La Quinta. Keisha D at Wang's the 1st and 3rd. Michael D'Angelo is at Chef George's Picasso Lounge Tuesdays & Thursdays. Denny Pezin is Fridays & Saturdays in the Sonora Room at Embassy Suites. Frank's Place is back with their weekly schedule and will include: Frank DiSalvo, with his Salute To Frank Sinatra, Patricia Welch, Terri Olsen with The Perfect Band, then she teams up with Patricia Welch for Broadway's Best, and Rebecca Clark is also there with her Barbra Streisand Tribute Show.

Lots of shows coming up at the local legit theaters too, including Mamma Mia at Desert Theatreworks that runs through 11/3, along with Disney's Mary Poppins is their holiday offering from 12/6 - 12/22. Desert Ensemble Theatre Company and Jerome Elliott have some dramatic plays in store. Annenberg Theatre has Raul Esparza 11/16, Spender Day 12/7, Judy Kuhn 12/9, 10, & 11, and Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus with A Modern Family Holiday 12/20, 22, & 23.  Desert Rose Playhouse and Robbie Wayne have Christmas With The Crawford's 11/29 - 12/22. To celebrate Palm Springs Pride, Palm Canyon Theatre will present Priscilla Queen of the Desert on their stage through 11/17, then for the Holidays, Sounds Of The Season Concert for one show only on 12/4, followed by The King And I from 11/29 - 12/22.

Plus we have much more you can check out in my weekly newsletter on line at lesmichaels.com and to submit news email me at les@lesmichaels.com

COMING THIS WINTER SEASON:

EASTER SUNDAY
APRIL 12, 2020
NO SHOW TODAY

DO YOU REMEMBER THURSDAY NIGHTS IN THE
TEN20 LOUNGE AT THE BEAUTIFUL BEL AGE HOTEL
IN WEST HOLLYWOOD?

IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY BUT IT WAS REALLY AROUND 2003 - 2006. THE NIGHT STARTED WITH "THE GUEST STARS SHOWCASE" AND 4 PERFORMERS DOING A SHORT SET AROUND 15 MINUTES AND 3 TO 4 SONGS. RON SNYDER, THE HOUSE PIANIST, PLAYED FOR THEM AND AFTER A SHORT BREAK WE CONTINUED THE NIGHT WITH OPEN MIC. IT REALLY WAS A FABULOUS ROOM WITH GREAT FOOD, GORGEOUS BABY GRAND, AND THAT VIEW!

I HAD SO MANY DIGITAL PHOTOS FROM THOSE NIGHTS BUT LOST THEM WHEN MY COMPUTER DIED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. BUT I RECENTLY FOUND THE PAPTER PROGRAM I PUT TOGETHER FROM THE VERY LAST NIGHT THERE AFTER THE HOTEL WAS SOLD, IT'S NOW CALLED LONDON WEST. ANYWAY, I COMPILED A LIST OF ALL 383 GUEST STARS FROM THE 140 SHOWS ON A SPECIAL WEB PAGE IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO SEE ALL THE INCREDIBLE SINGERS WHO CAME TO BE PART OF IT. I ALSO HAVE LOTS OF OLD "MINI - DVD'S" TAKEN OF A LOT OF THE SHOWS. ONCE I LEARN HOW TO TRANSFER THEM TO THE WEB I WILL POST THEM FOR YOU TO SEE.
