DEAR READERS:
WOW! WE HAD A SOLD OUT NIGHT! Lots of new audience members along with 25 singers leaving more than 100 non-singers. And I'm happy to say this room was quiet with no talking during the majority of the singers each doing show-stopping numbers with huge applause and cheers. JOEL BAKER started us off singing "It's A Grand Night For Singing". My song for the night was "This Can't Be Love". Our singers started with THERESE LEE returning again from LA and singing "Keep Moving Along" and "Back To Before". LESLIE TINNARO sang "I Could Have Danced All Night" and "Ice Cream". JB sang "I Dreamed A Dream" and another he sang Al Caputo but i didn't know it or get the title. Next we had PATTI GALLAGHER with a flawless "Think Of Me" and "Warm All Over". DOUG GRAHAM only sang one song, "Wheels Of A Dream" then left with his friend ZACK WILDE, who promised to sing next time. Also with one song was JEROME ELLIOTT who sang "She Loves Me", he'll be performing his one-man show "King Of The Song Cue Ball" this Sunday for the Cabaret On Sundays Series. PAT MCCANN came with two songs "What Is This Thing Called Love", and "I'll Be Around". JEFF LESSER is starting in yet another production of "Old Jews Telling Jokes" at Indian Wells Theatre, so it was nice having him there with "A Simple Wish", and "It All Fades Away But You". He brought a new singer named MELISSA CONNELL who was a real pro and sang the disco hit "I Will Survive", and "Nobody Doesn't Like Me". RUTHANN DE LA VEGA sang "Would You Believe" and "Where Do You Start". Another wonderful visiting new singer named CAROLE CHRISTOPHER actually she said she was here 2 years ago, sang "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life", and "It Could Happen To You". DOLLY DUPREE sang "On My Own", and a very fun "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart". JIM BRENTANO did "You Were Always On My Mind" and one I didn't write down. MARCIA HARP brought a party of around 15 people, and her songs were "Music And The Mirror" and "Maybe This Time". We also had DONNA BOATMAN there with "I Can't Get You Out Of My Mind", and "I Will Always Love You". Another wonderful first time singer was KATRINA BALL with "Every Time We Say Goodbye", and "Since I Fell For You". BETH FORMELOZA had some good songs, "Body And Soul" and "I'll Be Loving You Always". Then it was FERDIE FORMELOZA singing "You're Still You", and "What Kind Of Fool Am I". JIM ANDERS songs were a really fun "Lady Madonna" that got many of us doing the chorus, he also sang "Some Thing In The Way You Move". Another wonderful new singer named LORENZO REYES who nailed "After The Loving" and "Can't Get You Out Of My Heart". Next was ROSS CROWE who did "Theme From The Godfather - Speak Softly Now". New singer ANELA DELAIRE was also there but had to leave without singing but will be back soon. We had JOSEPHINE NEWKIRK also sang "Every Time We Say Goodbye" and great job with "How Deep is The Ocean". And lastly, DONNY TEETERS who got everyone going with "Stormy Monday", and for the last song of the night he sang "At Last" which fit the night because we went over by 20 minutes. So we're hoping this Saturday night is another packed house. Will we See you there?

HERE IS MY COLUMN FOR THE CURRENT ISSUE :

JANUARY - FEBRUARY, 2020

Happy New Year Cabaret Fans! I want to start off with my personal thank you to everyone who has helped keep cabaret alive and well in the Palm Springs area, from the faithful audiences, the outstanding performers and the venues who give us somewhere to do it. One place I am very proud to be a part of is the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert where the Arthur Newman Theater is located. The have been so supportive over the last 12 seasons in so many ways, including the installation of a new sound system, and new lighting is in the near future. Speaking of the Cabaret On Sundays Series, January brings Francesca Amari and Gilmore Rizzo in A Couple Of Swells 1/5, then Laura Bloom Farber in Great Ladies of Broadway 1/12, Jerome Elliott in King Of The Song Cue Ball 1/19, and Natalie Mann in Curtains To Reels 1/26. Then in February it will be Judy Rossignuolo-Rice in An Alto's Lament 2/2, David Bader in Hollywood Valentine 2/9, Ruthann De La Vega in The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning 2/16, and Earl Mitchell and Emily Lindbeck in Magic Moments That Last Forever 2/23. Bette King continues her new series at Mary Pickford Theater in Cathedral City with Broadway Calls on 1/30 starring Marcia Harp, Leslie Tinnaro, and Devorah Herberg, and Les Michaels as MC/Host, Gone, But Not Forgotten 2/6, and Now And Then 2/20. All I can do is list them and you can look them up; Oscar's Cabaret in Palm Springs, Wang's Of The Desert in Palm Springs where Jazzville has taken up their new home, Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs has Steven Fales in Confessions Of A Mormon BoyTuesdays through 1/28, Frankie's Back Room in Cathedral City has Thom McMorris in Teach Me Tonight1/17 along with Open Mic Thursdays with Joel Baker on piano, Toucan's in Palm Springs has shows presented by Don LeClair of Reaction Productions, PS Underground in Palm Springs, Club Indigo in Palm Springs, also Copa in Palm Springs has featured a few random shows besides regulars like Francesca Amari, Jeff Stewart, and Wayne Abravanel in The Mod Squad Variety Show on Thursdays, followed by Bella Da Ball in The Lipstick Cabaret Revue, and Derrik Lewis and his trio entertain Tuesdays and Thursdays next door in The Coral Lounge at Tropicale. David Green continues his Musical Theater University series at Acqua California Bistro in Rancho Mirage with Broadway At The River, plus over at the Helene Galen Performing Arts Center on the campus of Ranch Mirage High School he will present Be More Chill The Broadway Musical 2/7, 2/8, and 2/9. DO YOU REMEMBER THURSDAY NIGHTS IN THE
TEN20 LOUNGE AT THE BEAUTIFUL BEL AGE HOTEL
IN WEST HOLLYWOOD?

IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY BUT IT WAS REALLY AROUND 2003 - 2006. THE NIGHT STARTED WITH "THE GUEST STARS SHOWCASE" AND 4 PERFORMERS DOING A SHORT SET AROUND 15 MINUTES AND 3 TO 4 SONGS. RON SNYDER, THE HOUSE PIANIST, PLAYED FOR THEM AND AFTER A SHORT BREAK WE CONTINUED THE NIGHT WITH OPEN MIC. IT REALLY WAS A FABULOUS ROOM WITH GREAT FOOD, GORGEOUS BABY GRAND, AND THAT VIEW!

I HAD SO MANY DIGITAL PHOTOS FROM THOSE NIGHTS BUT LOST THEM WHEN MY COMPUTER DIED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. BUT I RECENTLY FOUND THE PAPTER PROGRAM I PUT TOGETHER FROM THE VERY LAST NIGHT THERE AFTER THE HOTEL WAS SOLD, IT'S NOW CALLED LONDON WEST. ANYWAY, I COMPILED A LIST OF ALL 383 GUEST STARS FROM THE 140 SHOWS ON A SPECIAL WEB PAGE IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO SEE ALL THE INCREDIBLE SINGERS WHO CAME TO BE PART OF IT. I ALSO HAVE LOTS OF OLD "MINI - DVD'S" TAKEN OF A LOT OF THE SHOWS. ONCE I LEARN HOW TO TRANSFER THEM TO THE WEB I WILL POST THEM FOR YOU TO SEE.
